Simone Rocha_

Simone Rocha graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2010. After debuting at London Fashion Week and showing her S/S and A/W 11 collections on schedule with Fashion East, her collections have generated great press recognition and gained her some of the most prestigious stockists in the world including Colette, Dover Street Market and Opening Ceremony. The pieces from above pictures are from her latest A/W 2012 collection, which has been shown during LFW with BFC NEWGEN sponsored by Topshop. Compares to her previous S/S2012 collection, she gave a great development to her new collection by continuing to her combination in lace, plastic and sleek, simple silhouettes with her modern, strong and yet romantic style. Love her new added element of  wool yarn knitting.

Here I recommend to read an article by Karen Hodkinson from Not Just A Lebel.com:

Click to view: ‘THE FUTURE OF THE FASHION SHOW   …Presentation is Everything

Good points of view, good consideration, good quoting… these are actually what I have been thinking these days after visiting london fashion week.

Azzedine Alaïa

(Azzedine Alaïa fits a model in his studio.   image from: the new york times)

Good quoting from Azzedine Alaïa in the article:

(from The Ground magazine): “As I said many times, the fashion world, its system, can be disturbing. The system imposed Galliano, and others, to make four collections for him, four collections for the house, four for men, and four for women. When you have one idea per year, it’s already a miracle! Now, it has become crafty fiddling at a breakneck pace. That’s not the essence of fashion. How can you really be creative under these circumstances? For the young designers it’s very hard, and for the more mature, they drink more, take more drugs… what I am saying is that the system is not right. We have to see the work from another angle. The system is too stressful: too many collections, too much pressure. As in other fields, if you want to do a good creative job, it takes time. What’s the point? I’m working 24 hours a day. I have had a house in Tunisia for 20 years, and I never have time to go because there are collections, fittings….”

what do you think?

‘I found staffs who use iPhone, some of them could not even remember a phone number, their memory is really … … worrying. Modern mind seems to have less notes. They are like goldfish, only have the memory of three seconds.’

PS:  As I read this interview in chinese translation version first, since I post this I still cannot find the original article , so I am afraid that I can’t  have a check before I post it… there might be a little bit different from what Karl originally said.

gossip 1:  iridescence

As early as SS12 Paris Fashion Week in September, Balenciaga and Chanel introduced iridescent, pearlescent ideas in their collections; then in early December Gareth Pugh launched his M.A.C collaboration collection with iridescent nail polishes; more recently, which is these days, Net-a-porter started to sell their new arrival COMME des GARÇONS iridescent metallic wallet, and then totally sold out in just few days! These results show that fashion world can no longer resist the charm of iridescence!

gossip 2: mint green, lime, tangerine, coral,  pale blue, turquoise, pale yellow, lilac…

These days either in boutiques or online stores, SS12 new arrivals are almost in these colours.

gossip 3: carry on metallic

metallic elements will be continued from last season.

(images from: sogetlucky, style.com, Net-a-Porter)

> Hope theses gossips will be helpful for your massive shopping during Christmas sales!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

such a good question and consideration to Chinese designers and Chinese fashion industry..

In the current Chinese generation, awaiting for the stroke of genius from one of the emerging fashion designers, no signs of radical changes are perceived. For most of them the Western style, a bit sexy, a bit minimal, a little baroque and a little decorative is the example to follow. A little of everything without making an individual choice.  ’

28-year-old German Fashion designer and biologist Anke Domaske has developed a method of turning sour milk into eco-friendly yarn which can then be made into fabric. She explains that “milk is a wonderful, natural raw material. The special thing about milk is that is has a lovely silky feel. The fabric falls wonderfully, and it’s cheaper than silk.” (via:MYFDBlog

I knew The Kooples(French for The Couples) from my flatmate Celia few months ago. At that time she was working at Selfridges and she told me that they are one the best brands in terms of turnover in Selfridges’ contemporary department since they launched. Magic power marketing!

My previous post Karina & Tom reminded me of their ad campaigns. Each season they feature serval attractive couples. With their new season clothes on, each couple have an ad image and a video which simply telling their love story (in their offical  website), where they first met, when they first kissed, how long they have been together, etc. It’s so close to real life, which gives me a thought that clothing is not just about pattern cutting, latest trends, pricing, it can be worn as a feeling, an attitude of love life, a link of an relationship… I think this is the reason why The Kooples is being so popular.
